The ISA volunteer program, Experiential Learning Abroad Programs (ELAP), was founded in 2002 as a way to encourage college students to go abroad, contribute to community development, and experience direct interaction with locals. Experiential learning adds a unique dimension to the study abroad experience, resulting in a greater understanding of the language, culture, and community of the host country.
ELAP offers structured volunteer placements throughout Latin America in a variety of fields, yielding valuable personal and professional experience. ELAP is a rewarding and challenging experience for proficient Spanish speakers who are seeking to contribute to an organization while learning about themselves in a challenging environment.
Participants develop skills such as problem solving, appreciation for community and diversity, the ability to cooperate and collaborate in an international setting, and enhance their understanding of global issues. As part of ISA- ELAP's commitment to social responsibility, a donation will be made to the organization upon successful completion of service.
ISA is also proud to introduce the exciting new Spring Break Volunteer Program open to all language levels. This expands upon the existing ELAP programs offered in Latin America.
