Meet Gabriela Ponce de Leon, an ELAP coordinator in Cusco, Peru! Gabriela Quinte is a native of Cusco, but has lived in Lima for 15 years. She received her degree in Computer Science, but underwent a career change when she discovered her passion for working with people. In 1999, Gabriela became a Spanish language teacher, not only teaching Spanish, but also Peruvian customs and culture. In Lima, Gabriela worked as a Language and Culture Coordinator for the Peace Corps Training Center. She was trained in Peace Corps offices in Honduras, Paraguay and Ecuador. From her experience working with people from all over the world and in her own country, Gabriela has gained a thorough understanding of cultural diversity and enjoys using her skills to help ISA Cusco students adjust. Gabriela looks forward to meeting and helping ISA students who come to Cusco! What is your favorite airport? Miami International Airport What is an interesting thing about you that would surprise ELAP participants? I have an internal seismograph and am able to feel any earthquake in the world. If you could have dinner with a famous person living or dead who would it be? I would have dinner with Michael Jackson, Mother Teresa and Gandhi. What do you like best about working with ELAP? That it allows me to bring together a volunteer with a place where he or she will have a marvelous service experience and a unique experience that can change one’s vision of life and of the world. |
